Reflection for April 28, 2017

" But Peter and John answered them, 'Whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge;  for we cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard.'” (Acts 4:19-20)

One of the most cherished things for us Americans is "freedom of speech."  We have the legal right to say almost anything as long as it does not incite a riot.  We don't have to worry about whether we offend someone or not.  People might get angry at us for what we say, too bad.

The disciples didn't have constitutional protections, but knew that they would only say what God told them and to speak from their experience.  Speaking from experience is also important.  Speaking our truth takes courage.

And yet hearing someone else's experience can be hard, especially if it contradicts our experience or accuses us.

Blessings,
Ed
